While Monroe Area didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 13-12 win over the Athens Academy Spartans. The Purple Hurricanes haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Monroe Area's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Athens Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monroe Area will venture away from home to challenge Apalachee at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' defense has only allowed ten points per game this season, so the Purple Hurricanes' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Athens Academy, they will head out to square off against Winder-Barrow at 5:30 p.m. on the 30th.
