Softball Game Preview: Millington Central Trojans vs. Briarcrest Christian Saints

The Millington Central Trojans will venture away from home to face off against the Briarcrest Christian Saints at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Millington Central will be strutting in after a win while Briarcrest Christian will be coming in after a defeat.

Millington Central will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Brighton, who they had gone 0-6 against in their six prior meetings. The Trojans put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 10-2 victory on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Trojans needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Breanna Hulsey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayley Stevens, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Grace Bell, who went 4-for-5 with three runs.

Millington Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Northpoint Christian hit Briarcrest Christian with a 12-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Saints came up short against the Trojans, falling 16-3. The Saints have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Briarcrest Christian's loss dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Millington Central, their win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-12-1.

Millington Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Briarcrest Christian in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 11-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
