Recap: Mesa Jackrabbits vs. Salpointe Catholic Lancers
It was a good run, but the Mesa Jackrabbits unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Thursday. The match between Mesa and Salpointe Catholic wasn't particularly close, with Mesa falling 60-45. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Mesa came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while Salpointe Catholic is ranked 40th).
Despite the loss, Mesa still got an impressive performance from Conway Cummard, who scored 22 points. Cummard scored a full 48.9% of Mesa's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Logan Martinez was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points for Salpointe Catholic. The team also got some help courtesy of Bobby Smith, who scored 11 points along with 5 rebounds.
Mesa's loss dropped their record down to 7-1. As for Salpointe Catholic, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mesa will face off against Canyon View at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Salpointe Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Sahuaro at 7:00 p.m. on December 8th. One thing working in Sahuaro's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four contests.
