They put the hurt on North Broward Prep with a sharp 55-31 victory. Given Somerset Academy - Canyons' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while North Broward Prep is ranked 128th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alana Pinnock continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Alanna Fabrini, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
North Broward Prep's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was ysamar pimentel, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Pimentel hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ana Abelleira, who scored five points along with 14 rebounds.
Somerset Academy - Canyons' win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points per game. As for North Broward Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
Somerset Academy - Canyons will be playing in front of their home fans against Westminster Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Broward Prep won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Suncoast at 3:00 p.m. on January 13th. One thing working in Suncoast's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games.
