Basketball Recap: Kings Mountain Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Kings Mountain lost against Huss back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Kings Mountain Mountaineers took a hard 81-63 fall against the Huss Huskies. That's two games in a row now that the Mountaineers have lost by exactly 18 points.

Despite the defeat, Kings Mountain saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ethan Daniel went 6 of 14 on his way to 15 points along with six assists and six boards. Those six assists set a new season-high mark for Daniel. Another player making a difference was Xavier Hutchens, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds.

Huss was led to victory by Jaleel Smith and Zaiyir 'Zii' Phillips. Smith almost dropped a double-double on 27 points and nine steals, while Phillips shot 5-for-7 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten assists. The contest was Smith's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Fred Nelson was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Kings Mountain's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-9. As for Huss, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Kings Mountain and Huss should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Kings Mountain will face off against North Gaston at 7:30 p.m. on Friday up 322 places (156 vs. 478). Kings Mountain is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. Meanwhile, Huss (ranked 76th) will meet South Point (ranked 207th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Kings Mountain is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66 points per game this season.
