Softball Recap: Upsala Comes Up Short

Upsala extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-3 in the process. They lost 17-4 to the West Central Area Knights. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for West Central Area, they pushed their record up to 3-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games.

For West Central Area's part, Ashlyn Lohse made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Lohse was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, West Central Area let Brinley Ulrich and Breanna Bennett run wild. Ulrich went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI, while Bennett went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Allen, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Upsala will be playing at home against Swanville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Central Area, they will head out to take on Montevideo at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
