Baseball Recap: South El Monte Takes a Loss

Friday just wasn't the day for South El Monte's offense. They fell just short of the Covina Colts by a score of 1-0 on Friday. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Colts apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Christian Ortega spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero).

On the hitting side, South El Monte saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emiliano Gonzalez, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That's the most hits Gonzalez has posted since back in April of 2024.

South El Monte's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Covina, their record now sits at 2-4.

South El Monte didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 7-3 victory against Artesia on the 11th. Covina will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Mountain View at 3:15 p.m. on March 18th.
