Preview: Morristown Yellow Jackets vs. Monroe Central Golden Bears
The Morristown Yellow Jackets will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Monroe Central Golden Bears at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Morristown is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
Morristown managed to keep up with South Decatur until halftime last Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Morristown was the victim of a rough 71-47 loss at the hands of South Decatur. Morristown has not had much luck with South Decatur recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the loss, Morristown saw an underclassman step up: Kellen Crim scored 20 points along with three steals. Crim scored a full 42.6% of Morristown's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Mathew Carlton, who scored eight points.
Even though they lost, Morristown were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Monroe Central came up short against Frankton on Friday and fell 64-54. While losing is never fun, Monroe Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while Frankton is ranked 118th).
Morristown's loss was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-7. As for Monroe Central, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-5.
