Softball Recap: St. Raphael Academy's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

St. Raphael Academy dropped their record down to 9-2 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the West Warwick Wizards by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Saints couldn't push the score so high this time.

Isabella Sousa was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Jaliyah De Los Santos made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

As for West Warwick, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.7 runs.

On West Warwick's side, Bryce Principe spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Adrianna Carsetti, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one triple. Allie Iannotti was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Raphael Academy will venture away from home to square off against Lincoln at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Saints' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. As for West Warwick, they will head out on the road to take on East Greenwich at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Avengers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Wizards' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
