Softball Game Preview: Brooke Bruins vs. East Liverpool Potters

Brooke is 9-1 against East Liverpool since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Bruins are taking a road trip to challenge the Potters at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Brooke has four straight victories, East Liverpool has 18 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Saturday, Brooke made easy work of North Marion and carried off a 10-1 win.

Gabby Hornick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Emilee McKinney was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Diserio, who went 2-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Brooke was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .442. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Marion only posted a batting average of .120.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for East Liverpool's offense. They lost 10-0 to Brooke on Friday.

East Liverpool saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trinity Pearson, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Brooke's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-17. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for East Liverpool, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-18.

Brooke took their victory against East Liverpool when the teams last played on Friday by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bruins since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
