Football Game Preview: Clovis West Golden Eagles vs. Clovis Cougars + Official Tickets

The Clovis West Golden Eagles will square off against the Clovis Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Clovis West is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They put the hurt on St. Joseph with a sharp 28-7 win. Considering the Golden Eagles have won four matchups by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Clovis West found their leader in sophomore Jamar (JJ) Howard, who rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 185 yards on ten of 21 attempts. Those 147 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Howard. Major Lee was another key player, rushing for 145 yards and one TD.

Clovis West was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 348 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Clovis sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 27-25 victory over Frontier on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cougars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Titans are ranked 96th).

Clovis West's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Clovis, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2.

Clovis West came up short against Clovis in their previous matchup last Friday, falling 28-17. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
