Football Recap: Weequahic Finds Playoff Glory Versus Montville

Weequahic had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They claimed a resounding 33-6 win over the Montville Mustangs. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 20 points or more this season.

Weequahic's win on Wednesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Samiyah Hutchins, who rushed for 86 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 44 receiving yards and one score. Those 44 receiving yards gave Hutchins a new career-high. Heaven Porter was another key player, gaining 145 total yards and a touchdown.

Weequahic didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Montville to a completion percentage of just 50%. The team can thank Sahnae West for the heroic effort on defense: she. Weequahic wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 85.7%.

Weequahic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Harmoni Burgess and Porter. Burgess got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Weequahic is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 29.9 points over those games. As for Montville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3-1.

Looking ahead, Weequahic will challenge Ridgewood at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Maroons will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight. Montville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
