Baseball Game Preview: Belpre Golden Eagles vs. Alexander Spartans

For the second straight game, Belpre will face off against Alexander. The Golden Eagles will welcome the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Having struggled with seven losses in a row, Belpre turned things around against Alexander on Tuesday. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Spartans.

Chris Copen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Belpre is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-10 otherwise.

At the plate, AJ Copen was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Belpre is 2-1 when Copen posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carson Moore, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Belpre hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alexander struck out 12 times.

Belpre's win bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Alexander, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Alexander's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Belpre has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Alexander, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will Belpre keep running through batters, or will the Spartans buck the trend?
