Baseball Recap: Central Cabarrus Vikings vs. Piedmont Panthers
Central Cabarrus was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Piedmont Panthers.
Keyen Elbe was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Elbe was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Elbe wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bryson Pate, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. That RBI was Pate's first of the season.
Central Cabarrus' record now sits at 4-12. As for Piedmont, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central Cabarrus will face off against South Rowan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight. As for Piedmont, they will square off against Anson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
