Softball Game Preview: Bishop Brossart Mustangs vs. Boone County Rebels

The Bishop Brossart Mustangs are taking a road trip to take on the Boone County Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Boone County took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Bishop Brossart, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Bishop Brossart turned things around against Gallatin County on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wildcats, sneaking past 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since April 16th.

Anna Bezold spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Bishop Brossart saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cayce Merkley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Boone County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 10-0 to Notre Dame Academy.

Bishop Brossart's victory bumped their record up to 18-12. As for Boone County, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-24.

Bishop Brossart took their win against Boone County when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 19-7 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
