Softball Recap: Palmetto Drops Highest Score of Season Against South Dade

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Palmetto). They blew past the South Dade Buccaneers 20-2 on Tuesday. With that win, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Palmetto let Madeleine Baldwin and Katie Gonzalez run wild. Baldwin scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave Gonzalez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jessica Ortiz, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Palmetto always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .824. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Palmetto and bumps their season record up to 7-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for South Dade, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-8.

Palmetto will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Buccaneers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
