Baseball Recap: La Porte Comes Up Short

La Porte extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 9-14 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Valparaiso Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-0 on Tuesday.

La Porte saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keli Hay, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

As for Valparaiso, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games.

On Valparaiso's side, the team relied heavily on Adler Holtz, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI Holtz has posted over his last ten games. Another player making a difference was Trent Gill, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, La Porte will venture away from home to take on Lowell at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Valparaiso, they will host Hanover Central at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Vikings have won six straight at home, while the Wildcats won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
