The Lakewood Lancers will head out on the road to challenge the Millikan Rams at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Lakewood's win against Jordan wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lancers won by a run and slipped past the Panthers 9-8. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Lancers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Lakewood got a big performance out of Gavin Koontz, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Anthony Rueda was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Millikan came out on top against Cabrillo on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Rams were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Jaguars. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by eight runs or more this season.
Austin Brett looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ben Keisler was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Ness, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Millikan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cabrillo only posted a batting average of .130.
Millikan is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Lakewood, their record now sits at 11-13.
Lakewood might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from Millikan in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
