Basketball Recap: Keagan Mellott's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Limon over Simla

Limon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a hard 59-44 fall against the Simla Cubs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Badgers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 74-43 back in December of 2024.

Limon's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keagan Mellott, who went 8 of 14 to rack up 18 points and eight boards. Mellott is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Camdyn Tacha, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 10 points and six rebounds.

Simla found their leader in sophomore Tatum Kocerha, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. Caston Cox was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Limon's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Simla, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.

Limon has already played their next contest, a 63-28 win against Las Animas on the 31st. As for Simla, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-39 victory against Merino on the 1st.
