Softball Recap: Thursday's Defeat Ends Lubbock-Cooper's Winning Streak

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Lubbock-Cooper couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Grapevine Mustangs on Thursday. The Pirates' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Brooklyn Ray was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, Lubbock-Cooper saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Lozano, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Lubbock-Cooper's defeat dropped their record down to 30-6. As for Grapevine, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-10 record this season.

While Lubbock-Cooper had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
