Basketball Game Preview: Hampton Talbots vs. Uniontown Red Raiders

The Hampton Talbots will venture away from home to take on the Uniontown Red Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Monday, Hampton was fully in charge, breezing past Freeport 69-29. That 40 point margin sets a new team best for the Talbots this season.

Meanwhile, Uniontown entered their tilt with Franklin Regional last Friday with ten consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with 11. They took down the Panthers 73-54. Given the Red Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Panthers are ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Uniontown's win came from a few key players Hampton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Calvin Winfrey, who went 9-for-19 on his way to 24 points in addition to eight boards and seven assists. The match was his ninth in a row with at least 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelan Milsom, who went 10-for-16 to rack up 23 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Uniontown pushed their record up to 19-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.1 points over those games. As for Hampton, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season.

Hampton was able to grind out a solid victory over Uniontown when the teams last played back in March of 2023, winning 58-47. Will Hampton repeat their success, or does Uniontown have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
