Norwood had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They had just enough and edged out the Hayden Tigers 20-18. The Mavericks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Tigers on Friday, too.
Brycen Rummel threw for 124 yards on nine of 20 attempts. Cole Bray was his top target, picking up 51 receiving yards. On the ground, Owen Tackett rushed for 137 yards and one TD.
Peyton Johnson and Carson Campbell certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Johnson rushed for 158 yards and one score while picking up 9.3 yards per carry, while Campbell gained 103 total yards. Johnson also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making seven total tackles and defending one pass.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Norwood will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Vail Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hayden, they will take on Sargent at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
