Soccer Game Preview: Mesa vs. Campo Verde

The Mesa Jackrabbits will face off against the Campo Verde Coyotes at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Mesa sitting on seven straight wins and Campo Verde on 11.

Mesa is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: Sunrise Mountain, who was ranked tenth at the time (Mesa was ranked fourth). Mesa never let Sunrise Mountain onto the board and left with a 1-0 victory on Friday. The Jackrabbits' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last six matchups.

Their one-goal win came courtesy of Evan Romero, who's now up to 11 this season.

Meanwhile, Campo Verde's game on Friday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They beat Catalina Foothills by a goal, winning 1-0.

Campo Verde pushed their record up to 16-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those five contests. As for Mesa, their victory bumped their record up to 17-4.

Mesa beat Campo Verde 3-1 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mesa since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
