Basketball Recap: Dwight Howard's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Deep Creek over Lakeland

Deep Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 69-56 to the Lakeland Cavaliers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hornets of the 84-82 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Deep Creek lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Dwight Howard, who posted 15 points along with six steals and five rebounds. With that strong performance, Howard is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Kamari Ricks, who went 6 for 12 en route to 16 points.

Even though they lost, Deep Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Deep Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Lakeland, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-5.

Deep Creek has already played their next match, a 78-57 loss against First Colonial on the 17th. As for Lakeland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 82-45 defeat against King's Fork on the 17th.
