Baseball Game Preview: West Ashley Wildcats vs. Spring Valley Vikings

For the second straight game, West Ashley will face off against Spring Valley. The Wildcats will welcome the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

West Ashley heads in on the heels of a playoff match on Monday. They fell 9-4 to Spring Valley.

For Spring Valley's part, Brady Evans made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. Evans also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Spring Valley is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-14 otherwise. Evans was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Ben Pierce looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Spring Valley is 2-1 when Pierce allows two or fewer hits, but 9-13 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Jacob Smoak was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Jayden Williams was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Spring Valley lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory was the third in a row for Spring Valley, bringing their record up to 11-14. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for West Ashley, their loss dropped their record down to 10-17.
