The North Posey Vikings will face off against the Evansville Central Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. North Posey is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
North Posey came out on top against Mt. Vernon on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Vikings blew past the Wildcats 7-1. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Remington Johnson made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Johnson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colby Angel, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Kade Buecher was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Evansville Central can bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Evansville Harrison 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bears have posted since April 19th.
Austin Plisky looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Hunter Broshears was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two doubles. He has become a key player for Evansville Central: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Colton Dejarnette, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Evansville Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
North Posey's win bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Evansville Central, their victory bumped their record up to 3-14.
Evansville Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: North Posey has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .466. It's a different story for Evansville Central, though, as they've only averaged .338. Will they be able to contain North Posey's hitters?
North Posey was able to grind out a solid win over Evansville Central in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 13-9. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
