Football Recap: Pagosa Springs Starts off Right with Win over Kirtland Central

Pagosa Springs gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They blew past the Kirtland Central Broncos 51-0. The Pirates have beaten the Broncos the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Broncos has come to flipping the script.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pagosa Springs to victory, but perhaps none more so than Colton Lucero, who rushed for 138 yards and three scores on only seven carries. Lucero also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble and making one tackle. Alex Pacheco was another key back, rushing for 99 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pagosa Springs was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 324 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kirtland Central only rushed for 125 rushing yards.

Kirtland Central's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Pagosa Springs didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 42-6 defeat against Centauri on the 4th. As for Kirtland Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 50-0 victory against Shiprock on the 5th.
