Football Recap: Ze'vion Grammer Key Part of Team Effort in Blue Devils Win + How To Watch

There's no place like home for Hopewell, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mecklenburg County Phoenix on Friday, sneaking past 16-14. For the Blue Devils, this counts as revenge for the 20-14 win the Phoenix walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

Hopewell got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ze'Vion Grammer out in front who picked up 200 receiving yards and one score. Those 200 receiving yards gave Grammer a new career-high. Another back making a difference was Deshon Bristol, who rushed for 116 yards on only nine carries.

Jackson Gray and AJ Jones certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Gray rushed for 45 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Jones rushed for 151 yards while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Jones also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble and making six total tackles.

The win got Hopewell back to even at 1-1. As for Mecklenburg County, their record is now an identical 1-1.

Hopewell will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Thomas Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th. As for Mecklenburg County, they have already played their next match, a 19-0 defeat against Amherst County on the 12th.
