Basketball Recap: Pace Comes Up Short

Pace played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Harlingen South Hawks, falling 55-28. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Hawks recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

Pace's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Bre Nelson, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 11 points and eight steals, and Andrea Salgado, who posted 11 points. Salgado is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games.

Fernanda Martinez had an outrageously good game for Harlingen South as she dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards. Those 16 points gave Martinez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Serena Cano, who put up 13 points and three steals.

Pace's loss dropped their record down to 9-16. As for Harlingen South, their win was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-5.

Pace will square off against Edcouch-Elsa at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Harlingen South, they will take on Weslaco East at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Harlingen South is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.1 points per game this season.
