Softball Preview: Jonesboro Hurricane vs. Cabot Panthers

Jonesboro is 0-9 against Cabot since April of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Hurricane will challenge the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Jonesboro turned things around against Little Rock Southwest on Thursday. They blew past the Gryphons 17-5.

Katlyn Lynch made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Harper Harris was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylynn Calloway, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Jonesboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Little Rock Southwest only managed seven hits.

Meanwhile, Cabot had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Tigers as they made off with a 9-1 win. Considering the Panthers have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Cabot pushed their record up to 18-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Jonesboro, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 4-11.

Jonesboro might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from Cabot in their previous matchup on April 8th. Can the Hurricane avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
