Argos is 0-8 against South Central since May of 2016 but things could change on Saturday. The Dragons will take on the Satellites at 10:00 a.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Argos is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Elkhart Christian Academy a 7-0 shutout.
The result came thanks to Ivy Stackhouse's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Argos let Adelyn Lewark and Ava Stackhouse run wild. Lewark went 2-for-3 with three runs and one double, while Stackhouse went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Stackhouse has posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, South Central made easy work of North Judson-San Pierre on Thursday and carried off a 9-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Satellites in their matchups with the Bluejays: they've now won seven in a row.
Lexi Johnson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooke Perriera, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Marlee Cavinder, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Argos' win bumped their record up to 9-11. As for South Central, their victory bumped their record up to 18-6-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Argos has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Argos might still be hurting after the 16-0 defeat they got from South Central in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
