Recap: East St. Louis Flyers vs. Cardinal Ritter College Prep Lions
The East St. Louis Flyers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 68-50 victory over Cardinal Ritter College Prep. This was payback for East St. Louis, who suffered a 66-45 defeat the last time these two teams met.
It was another big night for Taylor Powell, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Robert McCline was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
East St. Louis is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Cardinal Ritter College Prep, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10.
East St. Louis on the road again on Thursday and play against Carbondale at 6:00 p.m. on January 18th. Carbondale will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 258th, while East St. Louis is ranked 41st). Cardinal Ritter College Prep won't have much time to rest: their next match is against St. Francis Borgia at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. St. Francis Borgia is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
