Baseball Recap: Sayre Comes Up Short

Sayre extended their losing streak to eight on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-8. They lost 10-1 to the Canton Warriors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-0 back in March.

Sayre saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shaine Strickland, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. That run marked the first that Strickland has scored this season.

As for Canton, their record is now 4-5. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the contest before.

On Canton's side, Daniel Inman made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Inman has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Canton is undefeated when Inman posts three or more hits, but 1-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Bailey Gardner was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Owen Moore, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Sayre didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 17-2 defeat against Loyalsock Township on the 16th. As for Canton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, an 8-4 loss against Cowanesque Valley on the 16th.
