Softball Recap: Avon Eagles vs. Steele Comets
Avon had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 9-7 to make it five. They fell just short of the Steele Comets by a score of 3-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Comets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-3 on April 9th.
As for Steele, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.
For Steele's part, Karina Shuster spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. Shuster has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Nevaeh Sadler was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
Coincidentally, Avon and Steele will both be playing Avon Lake the next time they take the field. The Comets will head out to face the Shoremen at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Eagles will host them at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
