Softball Recap: Powell Beats Maryville for Their Fourth Straight Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Powell ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They skirted past the Maryville Red Rebels 4-2. The win was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on four straight.

Langston Coggins made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Madison Crawley was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with one home run. Nevaeh Wells was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Powell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maryville only posted a batting average of .222.

Powell pushed their record up to 12-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Maryville, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Powell will face off against Knoxville Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobcats' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Maryville, they will square off against Alcoa at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Red Rebels 4.1, the Tornadoes 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
