Basketball Recap: Lawrence County Now 8-1 over Last Nine Games

It was a proper cat-fight when Lawrence County faced off against Jefferson Davis County on Tuesday. The Lawrence County Cougars walked away with a 66-55 win over the Jefferson Davis County Jaguars. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Jaguars are ranked 227th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lawrence County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Jefferson Davis County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

When Lawrence County and Jefferson Davis County next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Lawrence County will try to stop St. Joseph Catholic's six-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Jefferson Davis County will face off against Columbia and their three-game winning streak at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
