Baseball Recap: Sycamore Victorious

While Sycamore's win against Boylan Catholic wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over the Titans on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won three in a row.

Evan Munch looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Sycamore is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-2 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Davis Collie, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He also put up two doubles, which were his first of the season. Jack Block was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Sycamore was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory got Sycamore back to even at 3-3. As for Boylan Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-8.

Looking ahead, Sycamore will take on Harlem at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Boylan Catholic, they will face off against Prospect at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
