Basketball Game Preview: Gerstell Academy vs. St. Paul's Crusaders

Gerstell Academy and St. Paul are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. Gerstell Academy will venture away from home to take on the St. Paul's Crusaders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Gerstell Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They strolled past Chapelgate Christian Academy with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 66-51. Winning may never get old, but Gerstell Academy sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.

Meanwhile, St. Paul's posted their biggest win since November 20, 2024 on Wednesday. They blew past Friends 60-31. Given the Crusaders' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Quakers are ranked 213th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Paul's has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 17-8 record this season. As for Gerstell Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.

Gerstell Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against St. Paul's in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 47-43 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gerstell Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
