Basketball Recap: South Newton Takes a Loss

South Newton and West Central squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but South Newton had to settle for second. They had to suffer through a 70-41 loss at the hands of the West Central Trojans. The loss continues a trend for the Rebels in their meetings with the Trojans: they've now lost five in a row.

Despite the loss, South Newton still got an impressive performance from Matthew Armstrong, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. That was a full 36.6% of South Newton's points, marking the fifth time in a row Armstrong has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Colton Marks, who had ten points.

Bryce Nannenga was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds for West Central. Those 13 boards gave Nannenga a new career-high. Christian Hughes was another key player, shooting 78% from the field to rack up 15 points and five rebounds.

South Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 6-17. As for West Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

South Newton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for West Central, they have already played their next match, a 59-52 win against Caston on the 7th.
