Basketball Game Preview: Fairfield Lions vs. Clay Panthers

Fairfield has gone 3-0 against Clay recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Fairfield Lions challenge the Clay Panthers at 4:15 p.m.

Fairfield lost 59-34 to Hillsboro on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 644th, while the Indians are ranked 152nd).

Meanwhile, Clay had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Falcons 43-13. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 20 points or more this season.

Clay is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.7 points per game. As for Fairfield, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Fairfield beat Clay 55-48 when the teams last played back in December of 2018. Will Fairfield repeat their success, or does Clay have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
