Basketball Recap: Urbana Beats Manchester Valley for Their Seventh Straight Victory

Urbana waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They walked away with a 62-52 victory over the Manchester Valley Mavericks. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 57th, while the Mavericks are ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Urbana's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Diego Orellana, who went 6-for-9 on his way to 19 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Orellana is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last five games he's played. Sean Pyles was another key player, going 6-for-15 en route to 18 points and six boards.

Urbana smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Manchester Valley's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Owen Caine, who went 8-for-17 to rack up 20 points and six rebounds, and Colton Enderle, who went 7-for-14 on his way to 18 points and six boards.

Urbana's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points over those games. As for Manchester Valley, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-16.

Urbana wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 77-72 win against Frederick on the 19th. As for Manchester Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-44 loss against South Carroll on the 19th.
