Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Loss Ends Great Bridge's Winning Streak

Great Bridge dropped their record down to 16-6 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They fell 5-0 to the Grassfield Grizzlies. The Wildcats were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but the Grizzlies' pitchers proved too tough.

Great Bridge saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Bocachica, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Grassfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games.

On Grassfield's side, Giacomo Franco made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Franco has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jameson Dick, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

Coming up, Great Bridge will head out on the road to challenge Oscar Smith at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. Grassfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
