Recap: O'Connell Buccaneers vs. Chinquapin Burrs
The O'Connell Buccaneers won the last time they faced the Chinquapin Burrs, and things went their way on Friday too. O'Connell simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Chinquapin 96-12 at home. That 96-12 margin sets a new team best for O'Connell this season.
O'Connell was led to victory by Jarrius Smith and Derrick Kirks jr. Smith dropped a double-double on 30 points and 21 rebounds, while Kirks jr dropped a triple-double on 38 points, 11 assists, and ten steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Kirks jr has scored at least 25% of O'Connell's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lonndon Beal, who scored 18 points along with five assists and four steals.
O'Connell is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Chinquapin, their loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-3.
O'Connell has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Frassati Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on December 19th. Frassati Catholic is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. Chinquapin will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Allen Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 16, 2024.
