Baseball Recap: Lee Williams Gets the Win

Lee Williams gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mingus Marauders, sneaking past 11-10. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-1 on Wednesday.

Cain Massey made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lee Williams is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-6 otherwise. Massey was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while going 1-for-4. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Sherer, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had over his last 11 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Izaiah Orozco, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Lee Williams has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Mingus, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-10-1.

Coming up, Lee Williams is taking a road trip to face off against Flagstaff at 11:00 a.m. on the 5th. The Volunteers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Mingus, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 13-3 defeat against Bradshaw Mountain on the 28th.
