Weed took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-5 margin over the Burney Raiders. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 9-8 win the Raiders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Landon Hughes and Jett Marshall made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hughes tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Marshall struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. At bat, Hughes scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4, while Marshall scored two runs and stole three bases. Those three stolen bases gave Marshall a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jackson Keen was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Hosler, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Weed always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burney only posted an OBP of .333.
Burney dropped their record down to 2-4 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Weed beat Burney by a score of 7-6 later that day.
