Basketball Recap: Pungo Christian Academy Takes a Loss

Pungo Christian Academy lost against Lawrence Academy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Pungo Christian Academy Raiders took a 58-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lawrence Academy Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 430th, while the Warriors are ranked 151st).

When it comes to explaining why Pungo Christian Academy lost, don't look at Allison Sawyer. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 29 points and 14 rebounds. Sawyer's evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Bristol Cutrell, who posted four points.

Ellie Farmer was a one-woman wrecking crew for Lawrence Academy as she dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten assists. The dominant performance also gave Farmer a new career-high in blocks (seven). Jaslene Etheridge was another key player, putting up 14 points along with eight boards and four steals.

Pungo Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Lawrence Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Ridgecroft the next time they take the court. Pungo Christian Academy will head out to face Ridgecroft at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Lawrence Academy will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
