Softball Recap: Elkhart Picks Up Seventh Straight Win at Home

It was a proper cat-fight when Elkhart took on South Bend Riley on Thursday. The Lions narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Wildcats 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted since May 15, 2024.

Laci Stimac spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Ava Walker was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Reid, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Elkhart's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for South Bend Riley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.

Coming up, Elkhart will face off against Goshen at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for South Bend Riley, they will square off against Huntington North at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats are facing the Vikings at the right time seeing as the Vikings are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
