Baseball Game Preview: Lee Williams Volunteers vs. Needles Mustangs

The Lee Williams Volunteers will take on the Needles Mustangs in a tournament on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Lee Williams was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against White Pine on Thursday. Lee Williams was the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over White Pine.

Cain Massey was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cannon Cobanovich, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Lee Williams always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as White Pine only posted an OBP of .400.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Needles). They put the hurt on North Valley Christian Academy with a sharp 17-6 victory on Thursday.

Robert Tapia made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Tapia was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Five bases. while going 2-for-2. Those runs were his first of the season.

In other batting news, Gabe Rodriquez was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Needles is 2-1 when Rodriquez posts two or more runs, but 0-3-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Holden Jones, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4.

Needles' win bumped their record up to 2-4-1. As for Lee Williams, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Lee Williams came out on top in a nail-biter against Needles when the teams last played back in April of 2015, sneaking past 2-1. Does Lee Williams have another victory up their sleeve, or will Needles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
