Recap: Telluride Miners vs. Dolores Bears
The Telluride Miners waltzed into their game on Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They walked away with a 59-47 win over Dolores. That's another feather in the cap for Telluride, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Telluride got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Townes Merritt out in front who scored 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Merritt has scored all season. Grayson Berry was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Dolores lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Trayton Traweek, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Traweek is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Palate, who scored 16 points.
Telluride's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Dolores, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.
Telluride will be playing at home against Nucla at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Nucla is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season. As for Dolores, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Dove Creek at 3:30 p.m. Hopefully Dove Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Tuesday.
