Baseball Recap: Carrboro Extends Winning Streak to Three

Carrboro entered their tilt with East Chapel Hill on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Wildcats 8-1. The Jaguars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wildcats, too.

Joe Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Evan Stowe was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Carrboro's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Levi Bienstock also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Carrboro pushed their record up to 5-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for East Chapel Hill, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Carrboro will square off against Williams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Jaguars are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for East Chapel Hill, they will take on Hillside at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
